Dear parents, here are some Commonly Asked Questions from you and we hope this blog post addresses them sufficiently!

1) Is swimming safe during the COVID-19 period?

Based on many multiple reports, the coronavirus will get deactivated in sufficiently chlorinated water.

✨✨ ActiveSG pools test the chlorine levels in the pool 5 times a day to ensure that the levels are optimal

2) If swimming is safe, then what is it that we should look out for?

Parents and children should look out for interactions with users beyond the swimming activity I.e germs found at the lockers and surrounding environment.

3) 🧼🧽 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗹 🧻🚿

• do not linger and run around the pool area after swimming lessons. Wash up immediately and head home.

• If you have touched any surfaces, such as the doors or lockers, remember to avoid touching your face, and wash your hands with soap and water

• Take a shower to remove external impurities before entering the swimming pool

• Clean your (or your child's) goggles and swimming cap in lukewarm water and ensure that it dries thoroughly in open space to prevent bacteria and mould growth. Avoid washing goggles with soap as it will damage the anti-fog coating.

• Skip swimming completely if you or your child has a persistent cough and/or shortness of breath.

4) Can you tell me more about the headcount capacity at ActiveSG pools?

Based on our previous blog post, we have shared that ActiveSG has decided on a 250 headcount limit since 16 March 2020.

The intention of this headcount limitation is to enforce social distancing. This is in no way to say that swimming is unsafe. From our previous blog post, you can also read more on our advisory on how you can help all students to have a chance in entering the swimming pool.

5) gov.sg says that the children pool is closed. Which is the children’s pool and why are they closed?

Children pools are generally known as the wading pool, and is typically 0.45m depth. Some children pools in certain ActiveSG locations might have a water feature or a small playground at the children’s pool. For our parents at Woodlands Swimming Complex, we have attached an image below for your convenient reference.

As to why the children pools are closed, here are a few possible reasons:

A) social distancing. By closing the children’s pool, it discourages non-essential visits to the swimming pool.

B) in the same note, with lesser non-essential visits, children who are visiting the pool for lessons will have a better chance of entering the pool for their classes.

6) Are you going to cancel private and condominium classes?

Private and condominium classes are going on as usual because the number of students are way lesser than government’s recommended 250 people.

During this period, it is extremely important to stay fit and healthy to fight the virus, and we are confident to say that swimming is a great sport to keep children mentally alert and physically fit.

7) I am on the Leave of Absence and Stay Home Notice with my child. Can you help me?

Yes we can. If you refer to our previous blog post about Leave Of Absence and Stay Home Notice, you will be able to find a step-by-step guide to how to apply for complimentary make-up classes if you miss the class due to LOA and SHN. We would like to gently remind parents once again to not send their children for classes if they are on Leave or Notice.

8) Can I suspend my classes temporarily until this dies down?

We greatly discourage parents from disrupting the usual routine, as stoppages causes students to be less fit, and sometimes they regress on their swimming skills, making them pick up again when they return to be an uphill battle.

However, we understand your worries and respect your decisions. If you would like to stop temporarily, simply drop us a WhatsApp message and our staff will attend to your request. Kindly note that Suspension terms and conditions apply accordingly.
